If you have ever found yourself in a situation where your vehicle stopped on the road — whether due to a breakdown, traffic accident, or any other reason — your first thought (after the initial stress) was probably: “How much is this going to cost?”
In this article we answer the most common questions about the cost of towing a car, explain how it is determined, which factors affect it, and what to watch out for when choosing a towing service.
How much is the car towing cost?
The cost of towing a car is most often calculated per kilometer, but it can vary significantly depending on different factors such as location, distance, and type of vehicle.
For towing passenger cars and light commercial vehicles up to 2 tons, we offer transparent and competitive pricing, especially tailored for shorter urban and suburban routes. Fixed rates depending on distance are:
- Up to 10 km – 2,500 RSD
- Up to 20 km – 3,000 RSD
- Up to 30 km – 4,000 RSD
These prices apply to standard daytime interventions within Belgrade and surrounding areas.
For longer distances, night calls, or special situations (difficult-to-access locations, blocked vehicles, etc.), the price is determined individually in advance.
How is the towing cost determined?
The towing cost is not the same in every case, because it depends on several key factors:
- Distance (number of kilometers)
The most important factor. Most towing companies charge the service per kilometer — from the pick‑up location to the final destination. Some firms also charge for the return of the tow truck when it's empty, which can double the cost. - Type of vehicle
- Passenger car – standard tariff
- Van, SUV, 4×4 – higher price due to weight and dimensions
- Heavy/specialized vehicle – price negotiated depending on complexity of transport
- Time of intervention
Towing during night hours (10 PM–6 AM), on holidays or weekends, often comes with increased rates, usually in the range of 10% to 30%. Emergency interventions (e.g., arriving within 30 minutes) can also be more expensive. - Condition and position of the vehicle
If the vehicle is stuck, in a ditch, locked in, or blocked, additional equipment (such as winches, cables, lifts) is required, which affects the price. - Entry onto highways
Towing from or on a highway requires special safety measures and permits, which adds to the cost.
When do you usually need towing service?
A towing service is not only needed after traffic accidents. Here are the most common situations drivers call for help:
- Engine or gearbox breakdown
- Dead battery
- Traffic accident
- Unregistered vehicle
- Transport of vehicle for technical inspection
- Driving without license plates
- Transport of vehicle over long distances (e.g. Belgrade – Novi Sad)
The cost of towing a car depends on many factors, but the most important thing is that the service is fast, reliable, and transparent. Always choose a towing service that offers clearly defined prices, professional support, and 24/7 availability.
